Tim Barrett

Tim Barrett, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

On Thursday morning, March 25, 2021, Tim Barrett died peacefully with his wife Kathleen lying by his side. He had endured a sudden onset of an aggressive illness.

Born and educated in Scranton, Pa., Tim, 62, was the son of the late Richard P. and Eleanor Wendel Barrett.

In January, he and Kathleen celebrated 42 years of marriage (or 15,408 days). However, they were together, as constant companions and soulmates, for more than 50 years (or 18,276 days).

Kind, calm and selfless, Tim thrived when helping others in numerous ways. In the community he was involved in Habitat for Humanity and the LRCA (Lackawanna River Conversation Association). As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he was a reliable source of quiet humor, comfort and understanding. He was "Papa" to his grandsons Finn and Eamon and to a granddaughter on the way this summer. He was "Uncle Timmy" to 27 nephews and nieces and 29 great-nephews and great-nieces.

Tim retired in 2001 as a chief petty officer, having served 20 years in the United States Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees). Throughout his decorated naval career, he and his family were stationed in various locations across the globe. Tim continued their adventure after settling his family back in Scranton, where he began a 20-year tenure with the University of Scranton.

Tim is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Kelly) Barrett; daughter, Kelly and son-in-law, Joseph Wentland; sons, Elijah and Sam; grandson, Eamon; sisters, Maryann (Don Mauro); Rosemary, Kathy; Ellen (Terry O'Toole); brother, Richard (Donna).

He was preceded in death by his brother, John; and his grandson, Finley O'Malley.

Tim's family would like to thank family, friends, neighbors and coworkers for their love, prayers, encouragement and support during his brief illness.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be a remembrance gathering of close family and friends to be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Tim's honor to the Lackawanna River Corridor Association, 2043 N Main Ave, Scranton, PA 18508 or Keystone Mission, 8 West Olive Street, Scranton, PA 18504 (keystonemission.org).
