James (Jim) Martin

James (Jim) Martin, 76, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Sunday.

Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth Higgins Martin. Formerly a member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish, he was later a member of St. Paul's Parish.

Jim was a 1962 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Scranton, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in human services. He worked for the Scranton National Bank until 1979, when he moved to Media, Pa. and worked for the Delaware County Housing Authority. Jim moved back to the Scranton area in 1996 to help take care of his mother, at which time he worked for Penn Foster. In 2001, and until his retirement in 2010, he was employed by the Area Agency on Aging. After his retirement, Jim worked part-time at Suburban Casuals until its closing. He was a member of St. Ann's Basilica Knights of Columbus, Council 12572, the Irish-American Association and the American Institute of Banking.

Jim was a man of strong faith. He was humble, kind, witty and the life of the party. He enjoyed his trips to Florida with Kevin and Dolly, and going out to dinner with friends and family.

Surviving are two brothers, Frank and wife, Marilyn, Bethlehem; and Kevin and wife, Rosemarie (Dolly), Scranton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Martin; a sister, Anne Marie Regan; a sister-in-law, Patricia Martin; and a brother-in-law, Michael Regan.

The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., to be celebrated by Monsignor Neil Van Loon, pastor. Friends and family may call prior to Mass, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church.
